This position is a key role in the Investment Accounting team, taking a leadership role in coordinating the maintenance of accounting records for the OMERS investment fund and reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts and public markets investment transactions.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

Reconciliation and Control Functions for Investment Fund
• Monthly reconciliation and analysis of general ledger balances to source systems and detailed, complete documentation of all discrepancies. Monthly reconciliation and analysis of general ledger balances to custodian information.
• Review and guide daily reconciliation and analysis of investment transactions between source systems and custodian information and review the work of analysts as needed.

Financial Reporting for Investment Fund Information
• Provide knowledge of accounting policies for investments to ensure correct and consistent application for all investment products.
• Prepare detailed, complete analysis and documentation of changes in investment account balances.
• Coordinate the group’s involvement in the quarterly and annual financial statement and annual report process with the Financial Reporting team.

Other
• Assist the Manager in leading the Investment Accounting team’s efforts with the Project Excellence initiative.
• Act for the Manager in their absence and back up other staff in the department as required.
• Development and maintenance of Investment Accounting policies and procedures.
• Participate in and lead special projects as required.

To succeed in this role, you:

• 5+ years experience in progressively responsible accounting, operating and/or reporting positions.
• Education - University degree plus an accounting designation.
• Strong working knowledge of the Investment Industry with an understanding of its regulatory and compliance environment and financial reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in process improvement with experience in documenting, analyzing and improving complex processes.
• Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• A team player able to operate in a fast-paced environment with numerous priorities and deadlines.
• Knowledge and experience with investment administration systems is an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal and management skills to be able to interact with OMERS personnel at all levels of the organization and build external relationships with auditors, regulators and lawyers.
• Detail oriented with superior computer skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with general ledger systems preferably Oracle Financials and its report writing capabilities.
