We are looking for a highly motivated Manager, User Enablement to join our Information Technology team in Toronto and be a leader in the user enablement space. In this role, you will be responsible for setting the direction of the global standards for end user computing, productivity suite, virtual computing, remote connectivity and helping to secure our endpoints and data.

You will be responsible to ensure proper operation of the enterprise computing environment across the organization and, as required, provide escalated levels of support and vendor management in relation to all computing and mobile devices and associated enterprise technologies. You will act as the primary interface with the various technical teams and clients across the organization as the prime management escalation point to resolve issues.

Daily activities would also include managing, receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end user requests. Problem resolution may involve the use of diagnostic and help request tracking tools, additionally the role may require that the individual give in-person, hands-on help at the desktop level.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

• Managing a highly skilled and dynamic team
• Leading business areas through the process of building solutions plan for new initiatives and determine the high-level system(s) changes to accomplish business requirements and building new business capabilities
• Working collaboratively with the enterprise technology delivery teams and business partners to define the detailed solution architecture that will support the business requirement for a project and for the enterprise
• Leading consultation and guidance to project/delivery teams throughout the system development life cycle and on choice of appropriate technologies, standards adherence, and process to obtain approval for deviations
• Formulating strategies and solutions that will illustrate how the proposed solution will evolve to satisfy the needs and concerns of stakeholders (e.g. delivery teams, business sponsors, infrastructure & security)
• Working in collaboration with the development team and governance committees through the process of architectural and design reviews by identifying opportunities and recommendations to optimize or enhance service offerings
• Partnering with other technology areas (as needed) to formulate solutions to support conceptual and preliminary estimates for initiatives
• In complex initiatives, act as the Technical lead to coordinate the activities of different internal and external teams to arrive at a solid overall solution
• Managing the effort to produce knowledge articles/artifacts for production support as it relates to user enablement
• Analyzing business and/or internal processes and practices to identify and recommend opportunities for enhancement
• Leading the team as the change agent and champion to move the organization towards enterprise strategic goals
• Analyzing project and/or technical risk, using available (sometimes limited) information to support business recommendations in the form of an architectural risk assessment for complex applications/issues
• Leading the team responsible for establishing and cultivating enterprise wide technology standards as they relate to user enablement and the modern workplace
• Managing the development and evolution of the enterprise strategic portfolio of technology that enables our businesses via the modern workplace
• Managing the team through execution of the strategic portfolio of projects/programs
• Introducing processes, tools, techniques and procedures into the technology environment to support the consistent application of principles, improvement in productivity, efficiency and quality of projects, applications and technical solutions
• Staying current on technological advancements, the impact and relativity of advancements on OMERS needs, identifying potential benefits and risks to the implementation, use of new and evolving technologies.
• Supporting the execution of the Enterprise Technology Plan by fully engaging the IT department
• Developing, documenting and managing controls to support all internal and external audit requirements
• Conducting research on emerging products, services, protocols and standards in support of enterprise technology initiatives.

On-call, afterhours weekends may be required. International travel may be required.

To succeed in this role, you:

• College level education, including technology courses; undergrad degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering is an asset
• Microsoft Certified Solution Expert (MCSE) is required, Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) certification is an asset
• Expert level knowledge of Azure AD
• Excellent knowledge of scripting, PowerShell v3
• ITIL Foundations required, intermediate level an asset
• Excellent understanding of project lifecycle methodologies required
• Team management experience required
• Ability to effectively manage, motivate and develop a team
• 7-10 years working deploying and supporting Microsoft technologies, exposure to CISCO routers and switches, SAN products, VMWare, Network architectures, building and deploying clusters
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to effectively coordinate with Management on issues
• High level of individual initiative and ability to work with minimum direction
• Strong analytical, consulting and problem-solving skills with ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced multiple project environment and strong leadership skills to facilitate solutions that meet the business objectives
• Demonstrated experience in dealing effectively at all levels with external systems and service providers, consultants and contractors
• Strong written and oral communication skills with a strong focus on customer service
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and facilitate collaboration and teamwork in own team and across other departments
• A superior, strategic as well as critical thinker and decisive problem-solver with a strong results-orientation
• Capable of negotiating key contractual agreements with little or no oversight
