Reporting to the Manager, Actuarial Services, the Senior Analyst is part of a team of actuarial professionals responsible for providing in-house actuarial and technical support pertaining to the OMERS pension plans. The individual will assist in strengthening and delivering in-house actuarial capabilities and services, work primarily with the Actuarial Services team but will also work with analysts in both the Finance and Pension Services business units.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

• Collaborating with the Actuarial Services team in projects as they arise, such as:
o actuarial valuation disclosures for the OMERS Pension Plan
o trend and sensitivity analyses
o benefit utilization analyses
o experience studies
o asset/liability study analyses
o funding and risk management analyses and contribution rate studies
o calculations under plan consolidation or divestment agreements
• Assisting with any development or testing of internal pension administration systems or outward-facing analytical tools requiring knowledge of actuarial mathematics.
• Efficiently performing and checking benefit calculations that requires Actuarial Services support, including marriage breakdown calculations, service purchases, NRA conversions, commuted values, and actuarial equivalence tests.
• Developing a working knowledge of the principal OMERS plan provisions and relevant administration practices.
• Assisting with the actuarial review of accuracy and completeness of publications, communication materials and financial statements.
• Supporting the Actuarial Services team with strategic activities and stakeholder requests.
• Ensuring compliance with internal records management policies and guidelines.
• Working collaboratively with external actuarial advisors.
• Developing other actuarial and analytical tools, as necessary, to enhance delivery and expansion of internal actuarial services.
• Keeping abreast of industry knowledge and trends through topical literature, attendance at relevant seminars and conferences.
• Remaining current on actuarial practices and professional standards and analyze impact of changes on OMERS.

To succeed in this role, you:

• Hold a university degree, majoring in actuarial science, statistics or mathematics
• Have at least 3 years demonstrated experience and knowledge of pension industry work experience.
• Are highly analytical and have a mathematical aptitude. An understanding of actuarial principles, statistical concepts and interest theory is required.
• Have attained or are close to attaining Fellowship from the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA).
• Are a well organized deliverer of accurate work with an attention to detail in a timely manner.
• Ideally have knowledge of WinTech ProVal or other actuarial valuation software and/or Ortec Finance GLASS
• Demonstrate proficient use of Microsoft Excel, including the ability to manage large data volumes, summarize and create charts. VBA programming experience is an asset. A good knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, PowerBI and Word is highly desired.
• Have excellent two-way communication skills i.e., able to actively listen and to articulate in a clear, concise manner. Strong presentation skills is an asset.
• Bring experience in drafting actuarial reports and/or presentations, and an ability to explain complex actuarial concepts.
• Have a client-service attitude, team spirit and an ongoing desire to learn.
• Take responsibility for decisions and actions while understanding the business and responding to related issues, concerns and problems.
• Have the ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously, and to set and adjust own priorities.
