Reporting to the Manager, Education & Training; the Specialist, Education and Training is responsible for providing accurate, timely information in an engaging and professional manner to both internal and external stakeholders. This may require working additional hours outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends), as required to meet objectives ranging from pension education and training services, driving product and services awareness, and supporting the delivery of OMERS advocacy/plan sustainability messaging. In addition, the Specialist, Education and Training has a primary front-line external focus to respond to member and employer needs, develop materials, and communicate the OMERS plan to all members, employer administrators and other interested parties (primarily associations and unions) by delivering face-to-face or virtual pension education training programs.

This role will require travel within the province of Ontario including airplane travel and overnight stays. A valid driver’s license is required.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

Employer & Member Focus:
• Delivering employer and member outreach programs (pension information sessions, member/employer webinars, employer workshops and other stakeholder events) and ensuring alignment with OMERS Client Centric Strategy
• Supporting the development and delivery of new OMERS products and services through promotion and education to our Clients
• Consulting with employer administrators regarding services that are available to their members (i.e. information sessions, one-on-one sessions, participation in wellness fairs, etc.) as well as administrative training needs and develop training programs to support their development
• Designing, developing and implementing member and employer training programs that satisfy the needs of OMERS and our employers and members.
• Evaluating training program effectiveness by compiling and analyzing feedback data, and recommend opportunities for improvement
• Participating in the creation and delivery of e-learning programs
• Collaborating with colleagues within Pension Operations, Member Services, and Pension Policy, participating in project initiatives aimed at providing support to employer administrators during the annual reconciliation process
• Planning and scheduling pension information sessions, conferences and employer support visits with external employers and stakeholders
• Supporting Pension Services by acting as the designated employer contact for assigned stakeholder groups
• Acting as an ambassador of OMERS, maintaining a professional level of rapport and appearance at all times
• Demonstrating sound judgment and tact when dealing with both internal and external stakeholders in a face-to-face environment
• Being accountable for decisions and actions, while understanding the business and responding to all related issues, concerns and problems

Technical Expertise:
• Remaining current on regulatory/policy changes relating to the OMERS Pension Plan(s) and keep up to date with developments in the pension industry

Team Work:
• Upholding and demonstrate OMERS Vision and Core Values when dealing with both internal and external stakeholders
• Supporting Education &Training teammates by collaborating on projects and providing assistance during high volume times
• Identifying opportunities for process improvement and documentation across pension services

To succeed in this role, you:

Must have:
• A University degree or college diploma together with a minimum of 5 years demonstrated working experience within the pension industry
• Current enrolment in, or successful completion of, the PPAC certification program
• Well rounded knowledge of pension plan administration and governing legislation and regulations – Pension Benefits Act, Income Tax Act, Family Law Act
• Demonstrated strength as a strategic thinker and decision-maker, able to build trust through demonstrated personal integrity, encouraging team to act in best interest of OMERS and achieve the highest standards
• Ability to appropriately influence desired behaviours and outcomes
• Demonstrated ability within an environment requiring accountability for decisions and actions while demonstrating an understanding the business and related issues, concerns, and problems
• Superior customer service, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Excellent two-way communication skills; able to actively listen for understanding and to articulate in a clear, concise manner, particularly within a Pension environment
• Ability to establish priorities and multi-task
• Availability to travel in Ontario as required, including airplane travel and overnight stays.
•Must have a valid driver’s license

Would be considered an asset:
• Accreditation in adult education/training
• Successful completion of the PPAC certification program
• Detailed knowledge of OMERS plan provisions, administrative policies and procedures
• Conversational French
